UCS - Viewport problem
Got this drawings in model space I have the UCS set to 'view' when I go into paper space I have a viewport and it shows the whole building on the p i s s. What am I doing wrong, can I use something like viewport properties and change the UCS there?
Sorry if this doesn't sound clear I had too many beers last night Cheers guys.

Re: UCS - Viewport problem
Skeeps.....you wanna align the building up East/West?
If so.....many people talk about doing it different ways.....me, I'm different, but you know that. I prefer to create a new UCS for the viewport.
Yell if you want to do that...all my notes on doing it are at work, but I'll try to remember here.......first you have to know the rotation angle. Looks like there it could be about 60 degs.
Activate the viewport....type UCS, NEW, Z, enter rotation angle
Goto view, viewports, 3D views, plan view, current UCS.
It should rotate the lot...I hope....as I said, I'm working from memory here.
Once you have a new UCS you will have to set things like VP scale and all that normal stuff.

As with most things CAD there's more than one way to skin a cat... some folk like to swear that their way is the best/only one anyone with any sense would use, but it's horses for courses.

Re: UCS - Viewport problem
Do you know what I did I just copied the whole building, stuck it in a new drawing and it worked.
I think what you've posted here is going to help, I'll try your method as I've got a load of drawings from another project with the same thing.
Cheers guys

Re: UCS - Viewport problem
If you copied it in the view ucs you set up then pasted it in to the model of a new drawing on world ucs then you have effectively straightened up the drawing... not a problem so long as you know what has happened & are aware of it if you have to insert it into or insert any other unrotated drawings.

Mum's the word.....
Skeeps, that way is fine....but as Hedge said...not good if you have to bring it into another drawing, or bring another drawing into it.
Ooops...forgot.....shhhhhh

Yes gotcha I see the implcations, however I have silly engineers who are jumping up and down. I've passed my drawing on and it's sitting on his desk....not even looked at it so obviously in a rush for that wasn't he?!

No worries... this isn't a "stuffy" site... where the "Mods" have their nose up in the air...
In the end... if the thread got hijacked... I would just split the thread into here and the "Lounge"...
By the way..
I would've used...
"mvsetup" > align> rotate viewport...

But are they jumping for joy or out of frustration b/c you got it done & now it's in their court?
By the by, I'd have to agree w/ Archi on this one...
