AutoCAD Saving Empty AutoCAD Saving

Post by Grape Dude on Wed Mar 04, 2009 12:55 pm

In my edition of ACAD 2k9, I do not have the option to save my files as an 09 dwg. It will only allow me to save it as a 2k7 dwg file. Does anyone else have the same LACK of an option to save as a 2k9 file? Is this something I would need to bring up to Autodesk? I checked w/ the IT staff infection people and they did not manipulate or even open the discs before they were installed. I have 2009 MEP at home but dwg's are saved as a 2k9 file. confused confused affraid Any help / suggestions are appreciated.
Thank you. Smile

Don't worry... it's normal... the last time the actual file format changed was 2007... i.e. 2007 will open 2008 & 2009 files but 2006 won't open any of them unless saved down to the previous version which was 2004.
2010 is another file upgrade so start expecting drawings to come thru' that you can't open again from late March onwards.

My take on this is if you are only saving the drawings to the current release you are working, that would force your company and their clients to have the same release as yours. Autodesk allows you to save down so that others that who have not upgraded can open, modify, etc. with an earlier version.

I still don't understand why I cannot save and drawing file as 2k9.

Well, I saved as 2007 in 2k7, 2k4 w/ ACAD 2k4 and so on and so on all the way back to R12 so why has it changed? Can anyone save in 2k9 as a 2k9 file? I know that 2009 AutoCAD MEP saves as a 2k9 file.

Have you tried installing the "update service pack"?

What a surprise... LOL
Service pack...

OK...
I found your answer....

2007 to 2009 are all the same format....
Supposedly you can open 2009 DWG in AutoCAD2007.

So this is why you can't see that 2k9 DWG.

==================================

H O W E V E R......

When using an add-on ... such Civil or Mech2009....
The file then becomes unique to those packages as those packages are not --- interchangeable---

Hence you will see the 2k9 DWG.

Go figure.... confused

Supposedly you can still open the 2009dwg.... however you may corrupt the AutoCAD entities... from those packages such as Civil or Mech....

They may become just empty shells and lose their link to the database of the specific package....

I hope that helps.
