Ok Interview question?? Empty Ok Interview question??

Post by jimithing Thu Oct 01, 2009 10:19 am

I get a call from a satellite installation company wanting me to come in for an interview. He proceeds to tell me that: "I see you have alot of Autocad experience in the civil engineering field. How do I know that you aren't going to leave us once the engineering field starts picking up again?" How does one go about answering that? I have been out of the cad field for almost 2 years, and it hasnt picked up yet. Plus, they are hiring during this recession, so what should be my response to his question??

Tell him you're using this opportunity to look at a career change. Drafting doesn't pay much money.

The Fact is the engineering field like most white collar jobs are unstable at best. But your service in the USMC taught you a work ethic, that drives you to make a career change. At the end of the day the Money is not the deciding factor, you are looking for career change that will fulfill your work ethic! Also the Stability of a blue collar Trade is much more appealing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

what a great question, but crap if you're on the recieving end.
I would say that you understand his concerns but that you have dennounced the devil that is engineering and have rehabilitated yourself into a sponge.
A sponge who is thirsty, thirsty for information and you wish to quench that from the fountian of all things pure and satellite.

And I come now from wence I came to wait until my lords bidding is done, and with this knowledge if thou bestowest me to my former glory of employment I shall knowest no other to call thine boss.

....sorry couldn't resist.

Please don't say that tho, let us know how you get on.
