Company BS Forum
Well i thought i just vent here.....
So here it goes...
My company has a Forum for CAD on their own private network.
And of course, when you post anything your name gets attached to the post.
Your name of course is a link to your company profile... which has your picture, the office you're at, the pay grade your at, and anything hobbies you were dumb enough to list....
Prior to hitting the send button....
you have the ability... to NOT show your name...
So me and handful of people chosen to say anonymous...
We contribute to the board but remain nameless...
However... the moderator and veteran employees have decided to bad mouth the few us....
ASking why don't we share our names....
I have replied what does it matter....
What is this a dating service?
& when you google info... do you research the author on the NET for his/ her hobbies?
Or do people plan on calling people on the side... taking a problem offline... therefore defeating the principles of the forum.
Or do people plan to judge the advice given based on CAD xperince based on the profile.... thereofore acting like snobs towards the younger posters.
The above is just half of what i wrote... and i could go on and on... but i left it at that.....
And ended with a last sentence...
Saying that if the moderator really hated the feature then simply remove it instead of starting threads about the handful anonymous posters.
And be happy no one has abused the feature by not being professional and acted out towards on another with childish banters....
Sure enough....
I pushed someone's buttons....
And they spewed dislike towards my post....
and others chimed in as well...
a few posted in my defense...
but still ----- i can't help but wonder if I'm wrong.
So ...
I'm posting here to see what you guys think...
"Does it matter if you know the person's name - when getting an answer to a CAD?"

Re: Company BS Forum
Archi, I don't believe you need to know the poster's name, but a forum name is very handy. That way you get to know who posted, and get to know if this person is a good poster and his advice is reliable or not. I believe a forum name is essential. On another forum, the first thing I look at is the forum name. If it is someone I consider to be a d i c k h e a d, then I won't bother wasting time reading the post.
Apart from that, yeah, I'm definitely on your side.

Re: Company BS Forum
We have a company CAD forum but there's only about 40 or so people on it & we mostly know each other. You can put what ever name you want to but it's easy enough to find out who they are anyway. One feature I noticed was my location which I set to the 1st on the list - Afghanistan... it was changed to UK after a week so I changed it back! ... they never changed it again
... anyway... as Alan says I feel it's important to know that the person you are talking to has experience enough to give you advice (esp in a company environment) so a consistent signature/pseudonym is useful but the real identity?... what ever

That would have to be one of only a few times over the last 5 years, that I have ever seen the Hedge get serious. Wow.

Re: Company BS Forum
Hey listen, I would have to say that I agree with both Archi and Hedge. Archi has made a point that its not important that you know someones personal information, it is important that you post solutions to the best of your ability. ( I don't think that they are getting browny points or bonuses for cad solutions, so why do you need to know my personal information? only H.R. should know that!)
As for Hedge, I also like to have an Idea of who's behind the post, but I don't need to know who you personally are.
My suggestion to Archi is to ask the moderator to change how you sign up. Have them ask for a screen name instead of your company bio. that why it will keep the poster anonymous and the reader can associate a name with the post.

I guess I see your point. In some ways it's nice to see a thread that says it was started by Alan Cullen. As then I know that it contains way-out Aussie-crap-probably about crocodiles, which all us Brits know that they don't exisit, only on telly.
'Croc in my back yard', what a load of shite Cullen.
Next he'll be telling us he's slayed a dragon.
